What the standard establishes
ISO 14644-3:2019 provides test methods supporting cleanroom and clean-zone operation. It distinguishes airflow type and occupancy state and provides recommended apparatus and procedures for performance testing.
The standard is not a blanket product certification. A fogger may support a method, but the facility, protocol, apparatus, execution and acceptance criteria determine the study outcome.
Define the state before the test
As-built
Complete installation without production equipment, materials or personnel.
At-rest
Equipment installed and operating as agreed, without operating personnel.
Operational
The cleanroom functions in the specified manner with the agreed personnel and process conditions.
Translate the method into equipment requirements
Document the required visual area, release locations, delivery geometry, visibility, camera positions, lighting and operating duration. Then select fog output and accessories. Do not select a fogger first and force the protocol around it.
Record limitations and deviations
Airflow visualization is observational. Document obscured views, operator interference, fog-source movement, equipment changes, visibility limits and conditions that could alter interpretation.

Does ISO 14644-3 approve specific fogger brands?

Should operational-state testing include real interventions?
Where operational testing is required, the study should reflect the agreed operating condition. Pharmaceutical applications may also require dynamic interventions under the applicable protocol and regulatory expectations.
